At the beginning of 2019, projections for Indian shrimp production were very negative, and Indian farmers battled diseases and floods which affected their winter crop.
However, figures show that the country actually consolidated its position as the world's top producer and exporter of shrimp in 2019, and India’s total exports amounted to 667,140 metric tons, 8.43 percent more than in 2018. January 2020 exports for India show a 6.4 percent increase over January 2019.
Currently, however, the COVID-19 outbreak is affecting India’s shrimp exports significantly, and this has increasingly been the case since mid-March 2020.
