Indonesia: December 2019 sourcing update

After the volume of Indonesia’s shrimp exports plunged to its lowest point – 11,225 metric tons (MT) – at the end of Q2 2019, purchases of shrimp products from Indonesia recovered around the middle of Q3, reaching 16,505 MT in August.

At the farm-gate level, Indonesia’s prices have been consistently falling since the beginning of September, in order to make it more competitive with India and other producing countries. Cultivation of the third crop began at the end of November and is expected to be harvested before the peak of the monsoon season in January and February 2020.
