The U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded contracts worth nearly USD 15.5 million (EUR 13 million) to suppliers of Pacific rockfish, whiting, and shrimp. Clackamas, Oregon, U.S.A.-based Dulcich Inc., the owner of Pacific Seafood, was awarded the majority of the contract, supplying around USD 15.2 million (EUR 13 million) worth of rockfish, whiting, and shrimp.
Westport, Washington-based Ocean Gold Seafoods was also awarded around USD 748,000 worth (EUR 645,000) to supply whiting and rockfish, and Bornstein Seafoods in Bellingham, Washington, will supply USD 516,000 (EUR 445,000) worth of shrimp.
The purchases were made under the agency’s Section 32 program for child nutrition and other related domestic food assistance programs.
The USDA bought nearly USD 3.9 million (EUR 3.4 million) worth of Pacific rockfish fillets, nearly USD 8.9 million (EUR 7.7 million) of Pacific whiting fillets, and nearly USD 3.8 million (EUR 3.3 million) worth of Pacific salad shrimp.
Nearly 500,000 pounds of Pacific whiting fillets were not awarded due to vendor constraints, the USDA said in a notice, while 252,000 pounds of whiting were not awarded due to “Section 32 price considerations.”
Deliveries of the seafood will be made between mid-October and 31 January, 2022.
