Northeast US processors nab USD 19 million in government contracts

Two seafood processors based in the Northeast U.S. nabbed new federal government contracts to supply nearly USD 19 million (EUR 16 million) worth of frozen haddock, Atlantic pollock, and perch.

Braintree, Massachusetts-based Channel Fish Processing will supply frozen Atlantic pollock and haddock fillets worth around USD 14.4 (EUR 12.2 million) for federal food and nutrition assistance programs.

New Bedford, Massachusetts-based Blue Harvest Foods will supply more than USD 4.4 million (EUR 3.7 million) worth of frozen Atlantic pollock fillets and ocean perch filets.

In total, USDA purchased around USD 11.9 million (EUR 10 million) worth of frozen Atlantic pollock fillets, nearly USD 5.7 million (EUR 4.8 million) worth of haddock fillets, and more than USD 1.2 million (EUR 1 million) worth of ocean perch fillets.

The suppliers will deliver the fish to numerous U.S. cities between October and December, 2020.

A total of 24,300 cases (27 truckloads) of ocean perch fillets were not purchased due to no bids received, USDA said in the award notice.
