Prices for Norwegian salmon dropped more than 5 percent in the past week and volumes sold increased.
The weighted average index of weekly reported sales prices and volumes of fresh Atlantic superior salmon, head-on gutted, reported by a panel of Norwegian salmon exporters and salmon producers, found the average per-kilo price of Norwegian salmon to be NOK 90.78 (USD 9.15, EUR 8.39) for the third week of the year, down from NOK 96.09 (USD 9.69, EUR 8.97) in week two.
According to the Nasdaq Salmon Index, average Norwegian salmon prices dropped 5.53 percent in the week, but are up 22.04 percent in the past four weeks and 30.86 percent in the past 12 weeks.
According to the Euronext Oslo Børs Fish Pool, total sales volumes for Norwegian salmon exporters increased by 1,162 metric tons (MT) week-over-week to 6,564 metric tons, in the week. However, the total was down 1,135 MT year-over-year. Export volumes from Norway have decreased by 6,842 MT, or 8 percent, over the past five weeks.
Forward prices have been on a downward trend for FY2023, reaching NOK 87.25 (USD 8.81, EUR 8.08), but are moving upwards for FY2024, currently at NOK 80.46 (USD 8.12, EUR 7.45).
