US government buying even more pollock for 2020-2021

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is asking Alaska pollock suppliers to bid on nearly 1.5 million pounds of the fish to supply the National School Lunch Program and other USDA Federal Food and Nutrition Assistance Programs.

Suppliers must submit bids by 31 July, the USDA said in a notice, and winning bidders will be announced by midnight on 7 August.

The agency said the bulk frozen pollock will be delivered to numerous U.S. cities between 1 September, 2020, and 28 February, 2021.

Earlier this month, the USDA asked for bids on 7.258 million pounds of frozen pollock fish fillets and fish sticks. The winning bidders will be announced by midnight, 28 July, the department said in a notice.

The USDA has made numerous other fish purchases this year, including nearly USD 23.8 million (EUR 22 million) worth of canned salmon and frozen pollock.
