Prices for Atlantic salmon from Norway rose across every weight category in Week 31, according to salmon benchmarking platform Sitagri Salmon Index.

According to Sitagri, which reports prices for head-on gutted (HOG) whole fresh fish in FCA Oslo at the first point of sale to exclusively European buyers, the Week 31 average for 3- to 6-kilogram salmon, the most popular weight, was NOK 69.94 (USD 7.34, EUR 6.36) per kilogram, up NOK 3.03 (USD 0.32, EUR 0.28), or 4.5 percent, from the Week 30 average of NOK 66.91 (USD 7.02, EUR 6.08) per kilogram.

The Sitagri all-sizes average came in at NOK 70.35 (USD 7.38, EUR 6.40) per kilogram, up NOK 3.33 (USD 0.35, EUR 0.30), or 5 percent, week over week (WoW)

The biggest fish saw the most price movement this week. Salmon weighing more than 9 kilograms was up 12.25 percent, or NOK 8.59 (USD 0.90, EUR 0.78) WoW, and salmon in the 8- to 9-kilogram category was up 6.3 percent, or NOK 4.63 (USD 0.49, EUR 0.42), WoW. Both categories saw low export totals this week (22 MT and 58 MT, respectively), however, which is what most likely caused the price increases.

In a break from recent supply/price patterns, prices increased in Week 31 while export volumes also increased WoW and year over year (YoY). Week 31 saw 26,958 MT exported from Norway, which was up 1,136 MT, or 4.4 percent, WoW and up 1,641 MT, or 6.5 percent, YoY.
