Beijing firm promotes Malaysian grouper online

A Beijing-based seafood importer is focusing on the demand for tropical fish from Chinese households.

Most popular in China’s high-end restaurants, the Malaysian-sourced grouper is being sold for home consumption at CNY 88 (USD 13.01, EUR 11.15) per 600 grams by Yi Jia Yi Zhan Science Services Co. The firm operates a subscriber-based web trading service, which also operates a ‘flagship’ store on JD.com under the “Fresh Motion” brand.

The prices look low compared to the restaurant trade in Beijing, where rare spotted grouper fish are often sold for up to CNY 2,000 (USD 300, EUR 257) per fully grown fish. Yi Jia Yi Zhan signed an agreement with JD.com for 2017 to operate a flagship store on the site.
