Calif. king salmon prices drop on big catch

So many salmon are being hooked along the Northern California coast that the price of fresh, wild king salmon is plunging, at least for commercial fishermen who are on strike for a better deal.

Consumers seeking an affordable filet may be in luck if a market glut triggers a wave of price reductions. Prices were on the way down at some Marin markets last week, although many others continued to charge near $20 per pound.

But a strike launched Wednesday by many fishermen means the market will remain volatile.
