China keeping a “blacklist” of tourist seafood smugglers

A tourist arriving back from Mozambique with 12 lobsters in his suitcase has been warned his name will be put on a centralized “black list” if he’s found bringing seafood from abroad back into China again.

The seizure, which occurred at Wenzhou Airport, has renewed worries among Chinese customs authorities regarding rampant smuggling of seafood by China’s ever-growing tourist masses.

Customs authorities have been struggling to monitor a wave of premium foods coming into the country in the luggage of tourists. China is now the world’s leading source of outbound tourists, with numbers travelling set to reach 200 million this year.
