Dongwon pays millions for IUU fishing

The Liberian Bureau of National Fisheries (BNF) announced that Dongwon Industries has paid a total fine of USD 2 million (EUR 1.5 million) for two purse seine vessels involved in charges of IUU fishing.

A settlement agreement has been signed between Dongwon and the Liberia government for violations of the Liberia Fisheries Regulations 2010 by vessels the Premire and Solevant.

The fine was paid to release the two vessels of charges of IUU fishing that included unlicensed fishing activities, undeclared catches and the use of forged Liberian license. The case in now considered closed.
