Eastern Fisheries, Inc. on Thursday announced that it is in the final stages for officially forming a corporate entity in the Netherlands, with a 25-year industry veteran to steer the ship.
“At this time we have narrowed our search down to two perspective facilities, and have entered negotiations on one of the two production plants, which we expect to have finalized in the coming weeks,” said Joe Furtado, executive VP of Eastern.
The New Bedford, Mass.-based company will add an experienced managing director, but has not released his name. A company spokesperson, reached by phone, said more details will be available in the next few weeks.
“Our goal for this newly formed division of Eastern Fisheries is to better serve an existing customer base in a market that is very important to us,” Furtado added. “The primary focus at this time is the sales and distribution of our scallop items and the addition of live lobsters to our offerings.”
One of the world’s largest scallop harvesters, processors and marketers, Eastern operates 26 scallop vessels, with production facilities in the United States and China. Its product range includes sea and bay scallops, sole, flounder, plaice, Pacific cod and lobster.
