The European Commission has signed an administrative cooperation agreement with the Faeroe Islands in an effort to prevent illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Announced on Thursday, the agreement ensures that the control system in place in the Faeroe Islands is just as strong as the control system laid out in the EU’s new law. The deal will also enhance the cooperation between the EU and the Faeroe Islands in the battle against IUU fishing.
One of the core measures of the law is the catch-certificate scheme the EC implemented in late October; it will take effect 1 January.
