France’s Atlantic Seafood to relocate tuna plant

Atlantic Seafood of France on Thursday announced the upcoming relocation of its tuna-based production to the industrial site of Euralis in Lignol, western France.

The fully automated, 2,500-square-meter production site, to be operated by newly established subsidiary Atlantic Gourmet, began breaking ground in November. Full production is expected to begin in April 2012, using raw material imported from its joint-venture sites in Ecuador and Spain.

Tuna and cod represent approximately 80 percent of the company’s annual sales. It produces 4,000 metric tons of pouched and frozen tuna annually and 2,000 metric tons of cod-based products. It also sells salmon, organic prawns and squid.

Established in 1997, the company’s annual turnover increased by 30 percent this year to EUR 14 million; it expects the move to increase turnover to EUR 20 million by 2015.
