Gfresh crushes longtime sales goal

Online business-to business seafood marketplace Gfresh has reached CNY 10,000,000 (USD 1,437,917.90, EUR 1,375,866.40) in one-day sales after two years in operation, taking the company another step further in its journey to becoming the world’s largest online seafood marketplace, it said.

By leveraging a network of “dedicated refrigerated delivery trucks, inspection and customs staff, and global offices in Europe, North America and Oceania,” Gfresh has seen success as China’s cross-border e-commerce rapidly expands.

“Partnering with the China Certification and Inspection Group has led to a higher utilization of the platform. This has enabled seafood sellers to import live seafood into China quickly, minimizing mortality rates and shrinkage,” said the company in a news release.

A partnership with Mr. Hema, an O2O platform that offers a full-food solutions to city consumers, has also proven beneficial for Gfresh, allowing marketplace consumers within a five-kilometer radius to place orders through an app while at home and receive ready-to-cook meals shortly thereafter.

“Gfresh provides fresh salmon to a processing facility within two hours from flights arriving in Shanghai, which is then delivered to Mr. Hema locations as just in time inventory. That’s the freshest salmon consumers in Shanghai can possibly buy,” the company said.

Other advancements of note for Gfresh include its new referral program, which offers incentives up to USD 1,000 (EUR 948) for each referral generated by qualified platform users. Gfresh’s partnership with the Global Aquaculture Alliance has also yielded gains, with the online platform offering farmed seafood products certified under the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) program.

“Chinese consumers continue to look for safe, high-quality salmon to feed their families, sellers can provide comfort to Chinese customers with BAP-certified salmon,” said Gfresh.

More than 30 countries around the world are using Gfresh to trade and buy seafood, the company said.
