Harbor Seafood hires corporate executive chef, names two VPs

Harbor Seafood of New Hyde Park, N.Y., USA, has hired Dennis Gavagan as its corporate executive chef. Gavagan, a graduate of Johnson and Wales University with a degree in culinary arts, has 40 years of culinary and business experience in multi-unit hotel and restaurant operations, product R&D and food manufacturing.

His career includes 20 years with Marriott Hotels and Resorts as the corporate executive chef, overseeing standards and deployment of restaurant, bar, catering and room service operations for 3,500 hotels globally. He also held the corporate executive chef position at Nestle, and has been recognized throughout the industry with prestigious awards including The Silver Spoon Award for Industry Excellence from Food Arts magazine

“I’m delighted to welcome Dennis to Harbor Seafood to lead our culinary team and to help take them to the next level. His extensive culinary experience will make a significant contribution to the company’s long-term growth,” said Christian Limberg, president of Harbor Seafood.

Also, Alex Cook, formerly director of foodservice, has been promoted to VP-sales and marketing. Cook is now responsible for all aspects of the sale and marketing divisions including foodservice, retail and national accounts, and will be unveiling Harbor’s new look at the upcoming 2015 Seafood Expo North America, along with the launch of their newly designed website.

Lastly, Tom Higgins has been promoted to VP-purchasing, and will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the company’s product purchasing. Higgins merged his company, GF Higgins, with Harbor Seafood in 2008.
