HB Grandi sells off two pelagic boats, part of capelin quota

Icelandic seafood company HB Grandi has sold of two of its trawlers together with 0.67 percent of its capelin quota and trawl gear to Vinnslustödin.

The sale reduces HB Grandi’s share of the overall capelin quota to 18 percent.

The vessels, Faxi RE and Ingunn AK, are dedicated pelagic vessels. Ingunn will be handed over to Vinnslustödin, also of Iceland, on 3 July and Faxi is to follow in December.

The first of HB Grandi’s series of five new vessels, Venus NS, is due to dock at its home port of Vopnafjördur this month and is expected to start fishing on blue whiting.
Its second new pelagic vessel, Víkingur AK, is under construction in Turkey and is scheduled for delivery in December.

HB Grandi has a third pelagic catcher, Lundey NS, but has announced that in the coming years it aims to operate only two pelagic vessels, Venus and Vikingur.
