Ice-co, a leading exporter of Icelandic seafood, has become the newest member of sustainable seafood directory FishChoice and has expanded its daily fish deliveries to 30 U.S. and Canadian cities.
Ice-co began selling its MSC- and IRF-certified products in U.S. markets in 2015. Using FishChoice, the online, sustainable seafood sourcing tool, it has expanded its operations to U.S. cities including Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Newark, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Raleigh Durham, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington D.C., as well as Canadian cities including Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.
Thora Ottessen, U.S. sales manager for Ice-co, said the company’s daily deliveries would be made year-round.
“Because most products are available fresh, every week of the year, this offers excellent opportunity for distributors and retailers to develop long-term sustainable business,” Ottessen said.
Ice-co is now sending daily shipments of fillets, loins and portions of cod, haddock, salmon, arctic char, saithe, redfish, wolffish, monkfish, plaice, lemon sole, geysir sole, ling, lobster and rainbow trout to its new American and Canadian markets.
“Icelandic fish is well known for its sustainability and quality. With the new ‘superchilling’ technology, coupled with direct flights we are able to deliver maximum freshness all the way to the customer. Additionally by using high-tech robots with x-ray technology and water-jet cutting we not only provide the freshest fish, but also trimmed and portioned precisely to customer needs,” Ottessen said.
