In brief: State dinner features Maine lobster

Wednesday’s star-studded state dinner at the White House honoring Chinese President Hu Jintao featured Maine lobster.

About 225 guests were treated to a “Quintessentially American” meal at the request of Hu’s delegation. Poached Maine Lobster with Orange Glaze Carrots and Black Trumpet Mushrooms was the second course of the four-course dinner. Dry Aged Rib Eye with Buttermilk Crisp Onions and Old Fashioned Apple Pie were also on the menu.

Linda Bean’s adds menu offerings 

Linda Bean’s Maine Lobster Café in Delray Beach, Fla., started off the New Year by adding more items to the menu. The items include Lobster Sliders, Lobster Cuddlers, Maine Pasta Lobster Traps, Lobster Quesadilla, Vinalhaven Lobster Wrap, Delray Energy Booster and a Port Clyde Crabby Melt. In addition to the new lobster offerings, the café also added crabmeat dip to the menu. Currently, there are nine Linda Bean’s Maine Lobster Café restaurants, most of which are located in Maine.

Phillips CEO to receive business award 

The World Trade Center Institute on Tuesday announced that Steve Phillips, president and CEO of Baltimore-based Phillips Foods, is the recipient of Maryland’s 2011 Governor’s International Leadership Award. The award is the highest honor given in the Maryland business community and recognizes exemplary global leadership.
