Phil Gibson, a 30-year seafood industry veteran and former corporate seafood director for supermarket chain Safeway, has started his own consultancy firm.
Responsible Seafood Solutions will work with both suppliers and retailers on building their sustainable sourcing programs and doing supply-chain assessments, Gibson told SeafoodSource.
“One of them will be making a public announcement of its new policy in January,” Gibson said, while another should launch later in 2015. Gibson added that he’ll be able to provide more details during the upcoming SeaWeb Seafood Summit in New Orleans, La., USA, when he will serve as a panelist in the session titled “What’s in a Claim? Making Responsible Environmental Market Claims in the Seafood Marketplace.”
Shortly after leaving Safeway in December 2012, Gibson joined Encore Associates in San Ramon, Calif., as VP. Encore advises food and consumer-goods retailers on sales and marketing. He will be working out of the same office.
