A U.S. law firm is investigating True World Holdings, which owns fresh and frozen seafood wholesaler True World Foods, over a data breach the company suffered in late August.

Orlando, Florida, U.S.A.-based True World Foods, owned by True World Group out of Rockleigh, New Jersey, U.S.A., is the largest fresh fish distributor to high-end and mid-range sushi restaurants in North America.

The company self-reported the data breach, which featured unauthorized access being gained to its computer systems, to the Attorney General of the U.S. state of Maine.

Maine has a particularly strict data breach notification law that requires businesses to notify the Maine Attorney General's office if even a single Maine resident's personal information is compromised in a data breach, meaning any company holding data on Maine residents must report breaches affecting them, regardless of where the company is based.
