Libby Hill Seafood president passes away

President and current Chairman of the Libby Hill Seafood Restaurant chain and longtime National Fisheries Institute (NFI) mainstay Marshall L. “Ken” Conrad passed away on 12 December after a long battle with cancer. He was 72.

Conrad – who began working at Libby Hill Restaurant, founded by his father, Luke, in 1953, at age 10 – could often be seen advocating for the seafood and restaurant industries on Capitol Hill. He was also a frequent presence within the NFI organization, having served as its chairman in 2010.

“Ken’s legacy is one of success and family and he will be greatly missed,” said NFI’s President John Connelly, of Conrad’s passing. “Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his devoted wife Lee, his children and grandchildren.”

Conrad also held seats with the N.C. Restaurant and Lodging Association and the National Restaurant Association, becoming chairman of the latter in 2014 after serving as the NRA’s vice chairman and treasurer. He remained involved with the NRA and NFI until earlier this year.

An honorary chairman of the Wyndham Championship in 2005 and a chairman of the Wyndham Founders Club, Conrad served his Greensboro community in several capacities, even co-founding the Greensboro Urban Ministries Thanksgiving meal and feeding the needy for over 30 years on Thanksgiving Day.

Conrad is survived by his wife, Lee, his four children and his five grandchildren. Services are expected to be carried out later this week in North Carolina.
