Mowi salmon wagon hits the road to boost Scottish charities

Mowi is putting a Salmon Wagon food truck on the road this summer to raise funds for the Mowi Youth Fund.

With rural communities across Scotland looking to host their first events since before the pandemic, salmon farmer Mowi is putting a Salmon Wagon food truck on the road this summer to feed the attending crowds and in the process raise funds for 10 chosen charities.

Starting on 2 May, 2022 at Duror in support of the Kentallen and Duror Community Centre and finishing on 17 September, 2022, in Kingussie to raise funds for the Mowi Youth Fund, the wagon will be serving up salmon fillet burgers and noodle salads. The vehicle arrives at events fully stocked by Mowi and manned by the company’s chefs so that all of the proceeds from the food sales benefits the chosen local causes.

Mowi Scotland Community Engagement Officer Jayne MacKay said the salmon wagon was supposed to have been launched in March 2020 – just when the pandemic took hold in Scotland – and what followed was a frustrating two years.

“I think after what has been an extremely tough time for the country – not to mention the cancellation of countless events that have traditionally raised vital funds for communities – it will be great to get out to these gatherings and show our support for charities across Scotland. We are delighted to be working with the chosen 10 events and can’t wait to serve up our tasty salmon to benefit local good causes. As a world leader in sustainability, it is really important to Mowi to support the communities we work in and see them flourish and this is just a small part of that,” she said.

Mowi said Scottish charities and communities have the opportunity to apply to have the wagon at their event at the beginning of the year, with the panel then selecting a calendar of events and charities to support.
