Seafish on Monday appointed Dr. Paul Williams as interim CEO, effective in October.
Williams, who joined Seafish in 2004 as research director, replaces John Rutherford, who announced last December that he’s leaving after eight-plus years on the job.
Rutherford initially said that he’d be retiring in June. But the selection of a new CEO has been stalled by the ongoing lawsuit involving uncollected duties on imported seafood allegedly owed to Seafish. Rutherford had to push back his retirement date to the end of September, though he will continue to help Seafish support the government’s challenge to the Court of Appeal’s ruling.
“John Rutherford has made a huge contribution to Seafish in the almost nine years he has headed the organization,” said John Whitehead, Seafish interim chair of Seafish. “Paul’s appointment is a compliment to the caliber of the team he has built. Paul is ideally suited for this role and his appointment will be applauded by staff and industry alike. Whilst John will be handing over the reins to Paul during the next few weeks, I am delighted that he has agreed to help us achieve a successful outcome in the Supreme Court next year.”
