NFI Crab Council names director

The National Fisheries Institute(NFI) Crab Council has named former chairman Ed Rhodes as its new executive director, NFI said in a statement.

Rhodes served as council chair while he was V.P. for sustainability and aquaculture development for Philips Foods. He has also worked for more than 40 years as a marine biologist, both for the National Marine Fisheries Service and the private sector.

“From the start, Ed has served as the Council’s scientific rudder,” said Gavin Gibbons, the council's secretary. “His technical direction and insight have proven invaluable in steering the group toward an effective and adaptive sustainability approach. As Executive Director, his efforts will continue to be essential to coordinating and implementing work on the ground.”

Rhodes is no longer working at Philips due to what NFI called “a company restructuring,” but will focus entirely on the council's work.

“I am excited to remain with the Crab Council in this new role,” said Rhodes. “I have watched the Council grow from an idea into a thriving organization now sponsoring sustainability work in five Asian countries.”
