NOAA to showcase FishWatch at IBSS

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will host a press briefing about its consumer Web site, fishwatch.noaa.gov, at the International Boston Seafood Show later this month.

Seafood industry experts will join NOAA Administrator Conrad Lautenbacher on Monday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m. at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, to discuss the usefulness and value of the Web site.

Joining Lautenbacher will be Roger Berkowitz, CEO of Legal Sea Foods in Boston; Henry Lovejoy, president of EcoFish in Dover, N.H.; Boston Public Health Commissioner Dr. Barbara Ferrer; and Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian, assistant professor of medicine and epidemiology at Harvard University.

FishWatch, designed by federal fishery scientists and managers, is a consumer-focused education tool that provides information about sustainable fisheries and health concerns regarding seafood consumption. The Web site was launched last August at the Great American Seafood Cook-Off in New Orleans.
