Norway-based Atlantic salmon farming group Grieg Seafood ASA appointed Andreas Kvame its new CEO. Kvame will take up the role with effect from 1 June, leaving his position as managing director of Norwegian fish protein concentrate producer Scanbio AS.
Kvame knows the salmon farming industry well, with his career including 17 years in different management positions at Marine Harvest and Hydro Seafood.
In a statement, Per Grieg Jr., chairman of the board at Grieg Seafood, said, “We are particularly happy to welcome Andreas Kvame as our new CEO. He will in an excellent way complement the already strong leader team now in place in the company and will participate in developing our many potentials.”
The board pointed to Kvame’s “strong ability for execution” that it believes will contribute to a better utilization of the company’s production capacity, increase its cost efficiency and its salmon production from the current level of 70,000 metric tons (MT) annually.
“The company has clear ambitions about participating actively in the strong growth that the salmon farming industry is facing during the next years, and for me it is exiting to contribute to this value creation,” said Kvame.
Grieg Seafood achieved total sales of NOK 2.6 billion (EUR 300.6 million; USD 341.3 million) in 2014. It employs 650 people at its operations in Norway, Scotland and Canada.
