The Norwegian Seafood Council is positioning “Arctic cod” for the Chinese New Year market with a marketing campaign that’s encouraging Chinese consumers to cook the fish at home as a premium family meal.
Recipes for traditional Chinese cooking methods for the fish – such as steaming – and other serving suggestions were published last week on leading Chinese web portal Sina with a particular focus on consumers in the wealthier parts of the country.
The advertorial praises the virtues of Arctic cod, using descriptors such as “protein… vitamins… fatty acid… minerals.” It also predicts the fish – which is considerably more expensive than traditional household favorites like carp, croaker and perch – will soon become a staple of Chinese cooks and housewives.
