Norwegian seafood exports set record

It’s official: Norwegian seafood exports reached a record NOK 53.8 billion (USD 9.1 billion, EUR 6.9 billion) in 2010, up NOK 9.1 billion from 2009, the Norwegian Seafood Export Council reported on Tuesday. That’s the seventh consecutive year that Norwegian seafood exports have set a record, in terms of value.

The country exported a total of 2.7 million metric tons of seafood last year, up 93,000 metric tons from 2009.

High prices and strong demand for farmed salmon and trout were primarily responsible for the increase, as the value of Norwegian salmon and trout exports jumped 29 percent in 2010.

France and Russia were the largest markets for Norwegian seafood in 2010, while China and Hong Kong were the fastest growing markets for Norwegian seafood.
