National Prawn Co. (NPC) this week announced that it is opening a sales office and cold-storage facility in Dubai, as it expands its distribution reach into United Arab Emirates market.
The fully integrated company raises Penaeus indicus, a white shrimp new to the global seafood market, at several farms on the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia.
NPC produces both fresh and frozen shrimp and is introducing a new retail line under its Modified Atmosphere Packaging brand to the UAE market early next year.
"The UAE is a sophisticated market and we expect strong demand for both fresh and cooked products in the MAP line," said Peter Fraser, NPC's director of commercial development, who's attending the Dubai Seafood Exhibition this week.
NPC expects to produce roughly 45,000 metric tons of shrimp by 2012, up to 25 percent of which would be sold in the UAE market.
In addition to shrimp, NPC is also growing sea cucumber and is looking at raising barramundi, yellowtail kingfish and mahimahi.
