Nutreco on Thursday announced that it closed the acquisition of Chinese fish and shrimp feed company Zhuhai Shihai Feed Co. (Shihai).
The acquisition will provide Skretting, Nutreco’s fish feed business, with a production base in China. The move is in line with the company’s strategy of capitalizing on its leading position in fish feed by expanding into new regions and into feed for other species.
The acquisition was announced in February but was subject to approval from Chinese authorities.
Shihai reported revenues of EUR 65 million and produced about 100,000 metric tons of fish and shrimp feed in 2010. It also commissioned a new feed plant with a capacity of approximately 150,000 metric tons.
Skretting will continue to grow the business, supplying feed for shrimp, tilapia, snakehead, catfish and other species.
