Oceana Group fishing for more acquisitions

South African fishing company Oceana Group would look out for more acquisitions once it had bedded down the Lusitania deal, CEO Francois Kuttel said yesterday.

“As a diversified fishing company, there are still many categories where we are underrepresented and our balance sheet can support further acquisitions,” he said. 

“The Lusitania deal enables us to do exactly that — increase our footprint in species we were previously underrepresented.”

Last month Oceana concluded agreements to purchase the hake, horse mackerel and south coast lobster fishing rights and related assets of the Lusitania group and associated companies as well as its cold storage business.
