Orca Bay, Chun Cheng partner

Orca Bay Seafoods has formed a joint-venture partnership with Singapore's Chun Cheng Fishery Pte. Ltd., the Reston, Wash., company announced earlier this month.

The agreement solidifies the relationship the two companies have had for more than 10 years — Orca Bay is now designated as the "exclusive portal" of Chun Cheng seafood products in the North American market.

The agreement merges the procurement and processing strengths of Chun Cheng with the marketing and distribution channels of Orca Bay, resulting in a more streamlined operation, according to Orca Bay.

"Being like-minded in the areas of quality and food safety makes this an ideal fit," said Orca Bay CEO and President Ryan Mackey.

Founded in 1985, Orca Bay distributes an array of seafood products to retail and foodservice customers throughout North America. Alaska salmon, Pacific cod, halibut, ahi tuna, mahimahi, swordfish and tilapia are among the species it markets under the Orca Bay brand at supermarkets and club stores.

Originally an operator of longline fishing vessels, Chun Cheng has grown into an expansive network of seafood sourcing and processing, with two facilities and a total cold-storage capacity of 1,000 metric tons.
