With September marking the start of the native oyster season in the British Isles, the Shellfish Association of Great Britain (SAGB) has launched an oyster-tasting iPhone application to demonstrate the bivalve’s huge range of flavors.
The app tells consumers the flavor, saltiness, sweetness and umami of 27 UK oysters. Consumers can also select their taste preference, and the app will identify the best oysters for them. Contact information for oyster producers is also given.
The app is available online at the iPhone app store for GBP 0.69.
In July, SAGB published a definitive guide of where to buy and eat oysters in and around London, which includes listings for restaurants, bars and markets with descriptions, sample dishes, maps and contact information.
