Port servicing Beijing sees surge in salmon imports for Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year appears to have given a major boost to seafood importers, judging by data from a key northern port in China.

The port of Tianjin – a two-hour drive from Beijing – is reporting a 102 percent year-on-year jump in salmon imports, to 1,464 metric tons (MT), in the months of December and January.

Imports of king crabs rose 20.2 percent in the same period, to 245 MT, while imports of lobsters, at 156.7 MT, were up 285 percent year-on-year.
