Portunus, pangasius producer merge

Portunus Group, an integrated processor of sustainable seafood, on Thursday announced that it merged with Vinafish, which produces sustainable pangasius products.

The merger of operations will extend the quality of service for both companies. The transaction is expected to close by the fourth quarter of 2011.

Miami-based Portunus currently exports Vinafish products to Europe, Latin America, Australia, Asia and the Middle East. And the company believes Vinafish’s Mekong Delta processing facility — which is located in Long Xuyen, An Giang, Vietnam — will compliment its growth. In addition, Vinafish will now expand its processing capacity.

“We are very happy to be part of the Portunus team and are excited to leverage their unique expertise in developing novel seafood products for distribution to all major markets,” said Mr. Hieu, Vinafish director.

“The announcement of our merger of operations with Vinafish is the next logical step in reaching our goal of becoming a diversified and vertically integrated seafood brand,” said Palmi Palmason, Portunus CEO.
