Positive quarter for Austevoll

Austevoll Seafood ASA on Wednesday released its fourth-quarter results, including record-high operating results.

Operating results before depreciation and value adjustment of biomass in the fourth quarter of 2010 totaled NOK 754 million, compared to NOK 556 million in the fourth quarter of 2009.

Income for the company totaled NOK 3.5 billion, up from NOK 3.2 billion during the same period last year.

Austevoll attributed the positive results to considerably higher prices for Atlantic salmon and fishmeal compared to 2009.

As a result of interruptions during the season, resulting in Austevoll’s Peru fleet reaching only 38 percent of its quota, operating income for the company’s fishmeal and fish oil segment dropped to NOK 374 million, down from NOK 444 million in 2009. However, the company said the developments during this season indicate that Peru has a satisfactory and proactive management of its fishing resources, based on long-term philosophy and sustainability.

The company’s business segment comprised of Leroy Seafood Group also reported a historic fourth quarter, with a turnover of NOK 2.57 billion, up from NOK 2.18 billion in 2009. Leroy reported a harvest of 35,770 tons of salmon and trout compared to 35,000 tons last year.

Operating income from Pelagic Northern Atlantic totaled NOK 449 million, up from NOK 417 million in 2009, and EBITDA of NOK 24 million.

Austevoll also reported its operating income for all of 2010 was NOK 12.7 billion, up from NOK 11.3 billion in 2009. The company achieved an EBITDA of NOK 2.5 billion, up from NOK 1.9 billion last year.
