Santa Monica acquires Calif. distributor

Santa Monica Seafood on Monday announced that it has acquired Atascadero, Calif.-based Central Coast Seafood Co. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition, said Santa Monica Seafood, bolsters the company’s purchasing power and expands its distribution reach north to the Monterey, Calif., area. Santa Monica Seafood is based in Rancho Dominguez, in Southern California.

Central Coast Seafood will remain a separate, wholly owned entity in its existing facility and will continue to do business as Central Coast Seafood. Giovanni Comin, the company’s president, and the rest of the team will remain in place.

“We’re extremely excited about this acquisition,” said Santa Monica Seafood President Anthony Cigliano. “As a company, Central Coast Seafood shares our values and approach to responsible sourcing. This acquisition allows us to extend not only our sales reach, but our purchasing power as well. Improved access to some of California’s indigenous fisheries paired with the ability to service the amazing array of restaurants and retail establishments up the coast is a win for everyone, especially our current and new customers.”

Added Comin, “it is our shared goal to not only provide our customers the freshest seafood possible with top shelf service, but also deliver a product that is produced in an environmentally responsible manner.”
