Seafood Choices Alliance yesterday announced the 2008 finalists for its annual Seafood Champions awards. The finalists were named during the Seafood Summit in Barcelona, Spain.
The finalists are the Association du Grand Littoral Atlantique of France; Australis Aquaculture of Turner Falls, Mass.; Bantry Bay Seafood of Bantry, County Cork, Ireland; Mike Mitchell of Foodvest in the United Kingdom; The Plitt Co. of Chicago; Carl Salamone of Wegmans Food Markets in Rochester, N.Y.; Barton Seaver and his team at Hook Restaurant in Georgetown, Washington D.C.; Sunburst Trout Co. of Canton, N.C.; Bar Van Olphen of Fishes in the Netherlands; and Cindy Walter of Passionfish Restaurant in Pacific Grove, Calif.
"The finalists this year represent five different countries and each one has contributed to the sustainability and future of the seafood industry," said Mike Boots, director of the Alliance. "Without their work and dedication, their sectors would look very different. We commend them for their passion and effort and encourage others to follow their example."
The winners will be announced at the Seafood Choices Alliance's reception at the International Boston Seafood Show on Feb. 24.
The Seafood Champion awards highlight leadership, dedication and passion in the global seafood arena.
