Seafood industry veteran dies

Eric “Rick” Louis Sciulla, director of seafood at Pennsylvania-based Weis Markets and co-creator of Schula’s Grill and Crab House in Hagerstown, Md., died Saturday, 27 July, while out golfing. He was 58.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Sciulla most recently lived in Keedysville, Md. He had a long and successful career in the seafood industry, working as an executive for Ahold USA and later for Weis Markets.

An avid golfer, fisherman and horseman, Sciulla also had a passion for food, including seafood, which led him to create Schula’s Grill and Crab House.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Frances Sciulla; his mother, Mary Grace Sciulla; sisters Toni Egan, Lisa Perrone and Mary Ellen Rivera; and his four children, Augie Sciulla and his wife, Colleen; Christina Brown and her husband, Kevin; Rick Sciulla Jr. and his wife, Nicole, Danielle Bloom and husband, Brian, and five grandchildren.
