Sen. Olympia Snowe is seeking federal aid to help Maine's struggling lobster industry, the Associated Press reported today.
Snowe announced yesterday that she has asked the Small Business Administration, the Department of Commerce and the Department of Agriculture for help as lobstermen suffer from low ex-vessel prices and high bait and fuel costs.
The global economic slump has stifled demand for lobster, which is retailing for less than $4 a pound at retail outlets throughout New England.
