Stavis Seafoods’ rapid expansion continues with new facility

Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A.-based seafood importer Stavis Seafoods is developing new warehouse space just north of Boston, in Peabody, Massachusetts, the company announced on 27 February.

The 40,000 square foot facility, Stavis Peabody, will officially open on 6 March, 2017, and will be used to primarily service the company’s broad line of frozen seafood products. Stavis Seafoods expects the facility to increase its capacity for frozen inventory considerably, and to improve order fulfillment as well as warehouse efficiencies.

“Stavis Peabody represents a significant upgrade for us and is part of a larger growth strategy,” said Richard Stavis, CEO of Stavis Seafoods, in a prepared statement. “It provides us with more freezer space, more pick-faces, more docks and better accessibility than we have ever had. These improvements will allow us to pick and stage orders quicker than ever before. It also gives customers an additional location near Boston to pick up fresh and frozen orders, alleviating congestion at our Fresh Center and improving service levels and cut off times across the board.”

Stavis Peabody will be the company’s main facility for frozen items, it said, with Stavis Fresh Center, located in Boston’s Marine Industrial Park, functioning as the main facility for the fresh seafood side of the business. Company headquarters will remain on Boston’s historic Fish Pier, Stavis confirmed.

"Fresh and frozen seafood orders can be put up, wrapped and labeled to be ready for pick up at either location the same day,” explained the company in a release. “Having two pick up locations in the Boston-area ensures customers can get Stavis’ full range of high quality seafood quickly.”

In addition to the Stavis Peabody expansion,  the company recently made processing upgrades to the Stavis Miami facility, and it recently added new sales staff focused on increasing the company's presence in the U.S. Southeast. Plans for a new Boston-based headquarters and processing facility in the Massport Marine Terminal have also been finalized. The new headquarters expansion, which has its groundbreaking scheduled for spring of 2017, will create the “most technologically advanced and environmentally friendly seafood processing facility in Massachusetts,” according to Stavis. Moreover, it represents the largest, seafood-related private investment in the Port of Boston’s history, with a price tag of USD 40 million (EUR 37.7 million).

Stavis Peabody is located off Interstate 95 at One Technology Drive in Peabody, Massachusetts.
