Success for India tuna industry

To ensure value addition to tuna, a fish primarily meant for export, the fishermen were exposed to post harvest technology. Eco-friendly fishing method was highlighted at a program organized at Tharuvaikulam coast on Wednesday.

Besides adopting the hook and line to catch tuna fish, the fishermen were advised to preserve the catch hygienically. Tuna has a considerable market in Japan, where people consume the raw meat known as “Sashimi Grade tuna,” according to R. Balasubramanian, Senior Project Manager, Reliance Foundation, (RK4SD) — Reliance Knowledge for Sustainable Development.
