The parent companies of Chilean salmon farmers Ventisqueros and Granja Marina Tornagaleones are involved in negotiating a possible merger.
The Schörghuber Corporate Group, based in Munich, Germany, which owns Ventisqueros, made the announcement Wednesday that it was in negotiations with Ramón Eblen, Granja Marina’s owner.
“The goal of the negotiations is to build a joint-venture company with equal shareholdings which will hold all shares of Granja Marina Tornagaleones and Ventisqueros in a Chilean intermediate holding,” the group said in its statement.
Both companies are similar in size, and both produce atlantic and coho salmon as well as salmon trout. If completed, the merged company would be among the top five salmon producers in Chile.
Details of the negotiations have not been disclosed.
