U.S. scallop processor looks to expand

New Bedford, Mass., scallop processor Mar-Lees Seafood on Thursday announced that it has teamed up with private equity group Harbinger Seafoods.

The partnership give Mar-Lees the financial resources and management expertise it requires to expand “rapidly” — both organically and through strategic acquisitions.

Based in Boston, Harbinger is a group of European investors with experience in seafood processing and distribution and food retailing, focused on investing and developing seafood companies in the United States.

“Mar-Lees provides Harbinger with an excellent platform in the United States to rapidly grow within the seafood industry. We are thrilled to have partnered with John A. Lees, a visionary and outstanding leader in the U.S. scallop industry,” said Dmitrijus Nikitinas, partner and president of Harbinger.
