USDA asking for salmon bids after large contracts awarded

The U.S. Department of is seeking 74,480 cases of the wild salmon for the National School Lunch Program and other Federal Food and Nutrition Assistance Programs.

Bids are due by 5 August, and acceptances will be announced by midnight on 13 August. The winning suppliers will be required to make deliveries to several U.S. cities between October and December 2021.

Separately, the USDA recently purchased nearly USD 29 million (EUR 24.5 million) worth of canned pink salmon and around USD 1.9 million (EUR 1.6 million) of frozen wild salmon fillets. Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.-based Trident won the contract to supply USD 15.3 million (EUR 13 million) worth of canned pink salmon, while Seattle-based OBI Seafoods was awarded a contract for USD 13.8 million (EUR 11.7 million) of canned pink salmon.

Trident was also awarded a contract for 180,000 pounds of frozen salmon fillets valued at USD 1.9 million (EUR 1.6 million).
