Vietnam predicts rise in seafood exports

Seafood exports are expected to reach USD 6.5 billion (EUR 4.9 billion) this year, a rise of 5 percent from 2012. The forecast was made by Deputy President of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) Nguyen Huu Dung.

Shrimp exports are expected to value at USD 2.2 billion (EUR 1.7 billion), equal to that of last year, while tra fish exports are predicted to bring in USD 1.9 billion (EUR 1.5 billion), up 5.5 percent.

The export of other seafood products are expected to rise by 10 percent to USD 2.4 billion (EUR 1.8 billion). Dung said that the export of fish and seafood to major markets were expected to recover in the second quarter of this year after a drop of 8 percent in turnover in the first quarter.
