Vietnam’s export forecast deemed unviable

The Information Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (ICARD) has forecast the export turnover of seafood products would hit USD 6.8 billion this year, but industry insiders cast doubt on such a figure.

Truong Dinh Hoe, general secretary of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), said it is difficult to foresee the export figures of this year given the problems currently faced by the seafood industry.

“In the first five months of 2012, seafood export fetched USD 2.3 billion, rising 9.8 percent over the same period in 2011. However, as an insider, we find nothing optimistic,” Hoe told the Daily.
