Virginia Proposes Seafood Lovers License Plate

The Virginia Marine Products Board this week announced plans for a Virginia Seafood Lover license plate. The proposed plate depicts a few of the state’s seafood species harvested from Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries and represents Virginia's seafood industry.

The license plate is intended to support the marketing necessary to keep Virginia among the top producers of seafood products in the nation, and to promote the aquaculture industry for clams, oysters and finfish.

In order for the plate to be released in 2010, 350 prepaid applications must be received by the Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles. After 1,000 tags are sold, $15 of each annual plate renewal will benefit the marketing efforts for Virginia seafood.

Artwork for the new license plate was contributed by Michael Skinner, and the plate was designed by Caroline Teeling, art director at Blue Crab Bay Co.
