Vísir buys two Marel whitefish processing machines

Iceland-based seafood processing equipment manufacturer Marel has introduced a new product, FleXicut free, at Seafood Expo Global 2015, and Icelandic seafood company Visir has already bought two machines.

The processing machine is designed to locate pinbones in a whitefish and cut the fillet to remove them, either skin on or off.

“With FleXicut, Marel is bringing hi-tech to the heart of the fish processing factory and this will influence the entire process,” said Vísir CEO Pétur Pálsson. “This is one of the biggest steps towards automation that we’ve seen for a very long time in fish processing technology.”

Marel will install the first FleXicut at Vísir in May, and the second machine later this year, but the company has been running FleXicut as part of a development agreement since February.

“There are many opportunities out there and we have always worked well with Marel and knew that together we would come up with a solution that would meet all our requirements,” Pálsson said.
